FAQ

Questions about Communicator

Setup, accounts and how the two apps work together.

Getting started

What do I need to use Communicator?

An extension on your company phone system. Your administrator or phone service provider creates it and sends you the details you need to sign in.

Where do I download the apps?

Communicator Go is on the Apple App Store and Google Play. Communicator Next is installed on Windows, macOS or Linux from the download link your provider gives you, or opened in a web browser.

Is there a cost for the apps?

The mobile app is free to download. Your provider bills for the phone service and for the edition you use.

Using both apps

Can I use Communicator Go and Communicator Next at the same time?

Yes. Both sign in to the same extension. Depending on how your extension is set up, incoming calls can ring on both, presence is shared, and call history and voicemail stay in sync.

Can I move a call from my desk to my phone?

Yes. Communicator Go can take over an active call from another device, and Communicator Next can move a call from your deskphone onto the app.

Does my personal number show when I call from my mobile?

No. Calls go through your company phone system, so customers see your business number.

Features and editions

What is the difference between the Office, Business, Agent and Supervisor editions?

Office covers core calling and chat for small teams. Business adds more flexibility for larger groups. Agent gives contact center staff a focused layout for queue calls. Supervisor lets team leads monitor and manage agents.

Your provider sets the edition for each user.

Why can't I see a feature listed on this site?

Some features depend on your phone system version or on settings your provider controls, such as SMS numbers, fax, call recording or meetings. Ask your administrator to enable it.

Does it work with Microsoft Teams?

Communicator Next can keep your presence in step with Microsoft Teams, so your status matches in both.

Security and quality

How is my account protected?

Communicator Next supports two-factor authentication and single sign-on, and checks the server's SSL certificate before connecting.

What happens if my connection is poor?

Communicator Next adjusts call quality to your connection. On mobile, Communicator Go can request a callback when VoIP quality drops, and shows a MOS quality score after each call.
